February always brings its own unique set of challenges. It’s a short month, yet it often feels like I have twice as much to do. Balancing a full-time job, commission work, and sticking to my publishing schedule can feel like a high-stakes juggling act. Some days, I feel like I’ve got everything under control—other days, not so much. But through trial and error, I’ve discovered a few key lessons that help keep me inspired and productive, even when the pressure is on.
1. The Power of Schedules and Deadlines
I won’t pretend I’m perfect at this, but setting a schedule with hard deadlines is the single most important tool I use to keep myself on track. Without deadlines, it’s too easy to let projects drift, which only adds to the stress later. I’ve found that mapping out my goals weekly, rather than just looking at the month as a whole, makes everything feel more manageable.
2. Embracing the Imperfect Process
No matter how well I plan, life happens. There are days when I miss a deadline or feel creatively drained. Instead of beating myself up, I try to remind myself that progress is what matters—not perfection. If I fall behind, I adjust and keep moving forward.
3. Finding Inspiration in Unexpected Places
When I feel creatively stuck, I seek inspiration outside of my usual creative process. Sometimes that means going for a bike ride in nice weather, scrolling through Instagram, or binging a new show on Netflix. Even small changes in my routine can spark new ideas.
4. Knowing When to Step Back
Burnout is real, and pushing through exhaustion doesn’t always lead to great work. If I’m feeling completely drained, I take a break—even if it’s just an hour or two away from my desk. Recharging is just as important as working hard.
5. The Juggling Act Never Stops—And That’s Okay
At the end of the day, juggling multiple projects is always going to be challenging. But it’s also rewarding. I remind myself that every challenge I face is a step toward my bigger goals. Even when things feel overwhelming, I know I’m doing what I love, and that’s what keeps me inspired.
February’s creative challenges have been tough, but they’ve also reinforced why I do this in the first place. If you’re balancing multiple creative projects, I’d love to hear what keeps you inspired! Let’s keep pushing forward, one project at a time.
